Mijas is a place that always has plenty to do and see. Whether you live here, or simply like to visit, you will never find yourself bored or without something to do.
Spring 2017 is a great time to visit Mijas. Not only is the weather great, but there is also a busy event calendar for you to indulge yourself in. Whether it is family fun or something altogether more grown-up, there is plenty to choose from.
Here are just some of the best events that are coming up in the next few months in Mijas.
Mijas Carnival – Around Shrove Tuesday
This particular carnival takes place before the 40 days of lent and is a great chance to see some fun and fantastic homemade fancy dress costumes. Not only can you watch the carnival and choose your favourite costumes, but you can also take part yourself!
The Stew and Soup Route – Throughout February & March
Being able to sample fantastic local food is one of the best parts about living in or staying in Mijas. The earliest food-friendly event in the calendar is the Stew and Soup Route. Throughout February and March, you will be able to finally have a great excuse to get together with friends and enjoy some amazing food.
A variety of bars and restaurants throughout Mijas will be offering traditional Spanish soups and stews all for a great price. Ideal for those who love to eat out, or who simply love great food!
Rather than being considered a lot of separate events, Easter in Mijas is one big celebration. During the Holy week, there are daily parades throughout the streets that depict the story of Christ. Not only are these spectacular processions something to see, but the houses are also decorated with flags, flowers and banners – you may even see a band or two playing. It really is an amazing celebration and a treat to those visiting the area.
Sardine Festival – May 1st
This is another event for the foodies amongst you to note down. Taking place every year in the traditional fishing village of La Cala de Mijas, the Sardine Festival coincides with the Spanish National Labour Day; a national holiday. If you take a walk along the beach front in this beautiful village, the wonderful aroma of freshly grilled sardines will greet you, not to mention being tempted by some of the local beers and wines too!
These are just some of the events that you can look forward to during your time in Mijas this spring. Whether you are stopping by for a few days, a few weeks, or a few months, we are sure that you will have an amazing time and really soak up the culture and beauty of this wonderful part of Spain!
